      Empathetic and empathic both mean having the ability to imagine how someone else feels.

      They are interchangeable, you can use either. There is no difference in meaning.

      They come from the noun empathy:

      the ability to share someone else’s feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person’s situation
