The role of school in society is often an argument of discussion. It is common to think that this institution should have the mission to educate students in a wide sense.
Firstly, many schools don’t have laboratories for creativity stimulation. In my opinion, it’s essential to engage students with some special activities, such as music or theater, in order to keep training the creative side of their brain.
Secondly, I would say that schools should also care more about developing in the students some skills that could be useful in real life. Two important examples might be stress management for an exam and public speaking, commonly known as a serious obstacle for many people.
Finally, in my view the educational system should promote critical thinking: in class, teachers have to encourage students to keep up with what is happening outside the school, both from a political and social point of view, and to express their own opinions about it.
In conclusion, I think that school needs to form the citizens of tomorrow, and this cannot be done by simply preparing students for exams and tests.
