    A rewarding experience
It goes without saying that cancer is becoming a more and more common illness. We all are prone to suffer that, no matter how healthy you are. Unfortunately, there are children who have little confidence and hope in life. This disease not only damage their immune system but also affect them psychologically.
I felt something inside me when I read in a billboard “We are looking for volunteers” and next to this text there was a red nose. It caught my eye and I decided to call the number that was there. The person who answered my call gave me information about being a clown for children with cancer, it melted my heart and I undoubtedly offered myself as a volunteer.
The organization gave me training about how to be a clown, laugh therapy, empowerment, among others. When I arrived at the hospital me and my other mates were excited, we interacted with the children and I realised that there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a smile in their faces. I truly believe that this is an experience of a lifetime and humanity.

Years ago I wanted to volunteer, but I didn’t know how to help people who needed some support, so I started looking for some opportunity in any organization where my efforts were needed.
After proceed with some research, I’ve found LAFID out. LAFID is an institution which is responsible to take care of homeless people.
First thing that got me to join to LAFID volunteer was the fact they helped those one are forgotten by society and that unfortunately couldn’t get any better chance in life due the social inequality which we can notice not even in Brazil (especially here in Brazil) but worldwide.
Helping people at LAFID I could be exposed on too many stories told by homeless people and in those moments I figure out how unfair life may be to someone and how privileged I was just to have money enough to order a pizza on Friday, or just to be covered with a blanket in a cold night.
Working at LAFID I was in charge to cook, wash dishes, make laundry, etc. but the main and most important thing I did in my opinion was to be a good listener and talk with them. People who lives through the streets have no one to talk and share moments and due this fact I was able to realize that the most important “task” to be done at LAFID was to be a good listener hearing all their stories even because with their stories I could improve myself for life.
In LAFID we can come across with sad stories such as mothers who were abandoned by their sons, people who as child was left on the street by their family with the excuse they could not afford a better life to raise the kid.
LAFID was a great experience in my life, unfortunately I don’t have as much time as before due my job, but I hope to be a LAFID or another institution volunteer again because when we help another person, we’re also helping ourselves.

???Very good, but far too long. Don’t forget a title for an article.

    A different Christmas

Two years ago I had the chance to take part in a service project through a volunteer association. A friend of mine told me they had organised a Christmas lunch for all those people who had not a family to spend the Christmas Day with.

I immediately loved the idea. I thought it could have been a beautiful experience and the fact I would have helped other people really motivated me to say “yes”. Now, I can say I could not have made better choice!

That morning, my friend would pick me up to get to the structure where the lunch would take place. Although not being a very morning person, I woke up soon and I felt happy for the day I was going to spend in such a different way from other years.
I found with surprise there were a lot of young volunteers like us!
The coordinator explained us the schedule of the activities and split up us in groups.
My friend and I had to do very simple things as laying the table and serving the dishes.

We felt we were doing something important for all the people who sat at the table and we told each other that we had to convince also other friends to join the next year lunch.

    A brand new me
What would you say if i told you that being part of homeless dogs project can change your life thoroughly? You might be thinking i’m crazy but it is real and it happened to me.

Taking part in this project was and will be always an unforgettable experience because of the dogs we rescued and the activities we did with them such as baithing, feeding and above all taking care of them as if they were our children.

In adittion to this, we learned a great deal of new information about them like why’d some of them rather slept on their own or why they don’t like a particular type of food and what motivated me to participate was to stand a chance of adopting one of them and increasing my knowledge of dogs.

In conclusion, taking part in these sort of activities has a lot of wonderful upsites so if there’s any kind of program you’re fond of give it a go and you will not regret it.
